The work ahead

Four commitments to Area 1

Board service should be thoughtful, accountable, and focused on the people Palo Verde College exists to serve.

01

Student success

Keep student learning, access, persistence, completion, and opportunity at the center of every board decision.

02

Responsible stewardship

Protect public resources through careful oversight, transparent decisions, and planning for the college’s long-term stability.

03

Support for employees

Respect the faculty and staff whose daily work makes student achievement possible, and support a stable environment where they can succeed.

04

Community connection

Listen carefully, communicate clearly, and strengthen the relationship between Palo Verde College and the communities it serves.

About Scott

An educator’s perspective at the board table.

Scott R. Dean is the sitting Palo Verde Community College District trustee representing Area 1 in Riverside County and serves as Clerk of the Board.

Scott is a retired teacher. He taught elementary and junior high school and worked for the CDCR for twenty years as a teacher in three different state prisons, including Chuckwalla Valley State Prison and Ironwood State Prison. That experience shaped a practical belief: education changes lives when leaders listen, employees are supported, and decisions stay focused on students.

Scott is a husband, father of four, and Eagle Scout. He brings the same values of preparation, service, and personal responsibility to his work for the college community.

A very personal footnote

Then Scott entered the timeline.

History is filled with famous dates. On February 4, 1967, Scott Dean entered the world. Historians somehow failed to declare a national holiday, but this page is correcting the record—one visitor at a time.

The poster gathers music, news, prices, politics, television, cars, toys, and other memories from 1967 around one intentionally oversized portrait. It is meant as a playful keepsake, not an official historical document.

Why ballot position matters

Political-science research finds that first-listed candidates can receive a modest name-order advantage, especially in local, nonpartisan races where many voters know little about the candidates. This effect is not automatic and does not replace a candidate’s qualifications, visibility, or voter support.

Because I am listed seventh, I am making sure voters know my name before they reach the ballot: Scott Dean — number 7.
